Communication helps us make this work visible, understandable and relevant to researchers, partners and other audiences.

About the Communications Team

The Communications & Marketing team creates and shares content about Oncode's research, people, programmes and events. We are looking for someone to take on part of the daily content work. This will give the team more time for larger projects.

About the role

Freelance assignment | 24-28 hours per week | Approx. 6 months | Starting ASAP

We are looking for someone who can understand scientific information and write about it clearly. You will produce and publish content about Oncode's research, programmes, people and events, taking ownership of how this content is managed and positioned across our channels.

What are your tasks and responsibilities

  • Take ownership of our content management, combining organisational skills with the creativity to work across different formats and explore smart, thoughtful ways to use AI to strengthen how our content is positioned.
  • Manage feedback, approvals and publication deadlines.
  • Write, edit and publish content for our website, LinkedIn, newsletters and events.
  • Write about fundamental, translational and clinical cancer research for different audiences.
  • Use information provided by colleagues and ask questions when something is unclear.
  • Check that scientific information is correct before publication.
  • Suggest the right format for each topic, such as an article, interview, social post, photo story or video.

Qualifications / Skills

  • You are fluent in Dutch (native level) with excellent English writing skills. You are interested in science and comfortable working with complex information.
  • You have experience in science communication, journalism, communications or content creation.
  • You can explain scientific information clearly and accurately.
  • You are a strong writer and can also think about visual content, and other formats.
  • You are creative and comfortable suggesting ideas.
  • You are organised and can coordinate input from different colleagues.
  • You are interested in new tools that may support content creation, including AI.

What we offer

This freelance assignment is for three days per week, for approximately six months, with a maximum hourly rate of €60 excluding VAT, and the possibility of extension depending on the team's needs. The role is based  hybrid in Utrecht. As this is a freelance assignment, you will need to invoice as an independent contractor (e.g. registered with the KvK).
