Our Impact

Cancer continues to have impact on people. Despite progress in research and treatment, it remains one of the leading causes of death and disruption for millions of lives. In the Netherlands alone, half the population will face cancer directly in their lifetime. Even a bigger group is affeceted by cancer through someone they love.

Our Focus Areas

We focus on three areas where we make a difference:

  • Knowledge: Advancing understanding of cancer and driving new discoveries
  • Health: Turning discoveries into improved outcomes for patients
  • Economy: Fostering innovation and creating value through valorisation

By working together, we accelerate progress towards a world where cancer is no longer a life sentence.

Utrecht scientists reveal that metastasis-related changes occur early in colon cancer

A study published in Nature shows that cellular states linked to metastasis already arise as soon as invasive colon cancers are formed, but are surprisingly not enough to cause spread by themselves. The findings may help to improve metastatic risk assessment and prevent unnecessary surgeries.

Oncode Institute today announces the launch of the Oncology Bridge Fund II (OBF II), in collaboration with Ligase BioPartners, building on their established partnership in the first Oncology Bridge Fund (OBF I). This fund signals a next step, in scaling up Oncode Institute’s valorisation efforts, accelerating  translation of breakthrough cancer research into societal, clinical and patient impact.

Some scientific breakthroughs don’t belong to a single lab, discipline, or idea. They only become possible when collaboration is the strategy. Oncode Institute brought seven Oncode Investigators together across biology, AI, and clinical research to create PARM – a new method to break the limits of traditional genomic computing. This enabled them  to reveal the language for genetic instructions that tell genes when to turn on and off.
