4.UNCAN.eu is launching a “Call for Expert Working Groups” (EWGs). Scientific leaders with expertise in 6 different areas of cancer research will be invited to help identify the research priorities that need to be addressed to reach a new level of understanding in cancer. These research priorities are intended to serve as guidelines for the European Scientific Community (including the Cancer Mission Board) to set specific calls for funding, as well as use cases to feed a European Federated Cancer Research Data Hub.
Arising from EU’s Mission on Cancer and the Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan comes UNCAN.eu, an initiative to better UNderstand poorly understood CANcer. Its ultimate goal is “to achieve new breakthroughs in cancer prevention and treatment that will contribute to saving European citizen’s lives and help ensure an optimal quality of life to disease survivors.” In order to realize this vision, a-15-month Coordination and Support Action (CSA), 4.UNCAN.eu,will generate the blueprint for UNCAN.eu, and outline the research roadmap that focus on selecting key challenges that need to be addressed urgently at the supranational level by research groups in Europe and beyond. This CSA project is currently preparing for its official launch coming up in September, and we will make sure to keep you updated on it, as Oncode Institute is one of its partners.
In order to define this strategic roadmap, 4.UNCAN.eu is launching a “Call for Expert Working Groups” (EWGs). This Data Hub intends to facilitate the collection of reliable, high-quality cancer research data generated by experimental models and from longitudinal follow-up of cancer patients. It will enable the accessibility, interoperability and re-use of collected information and their integration with innovative tools, models and technologies at an unprecedented level in Europe.
Do you have interest and expertise to help set the strategic agenda in the following research areas?
- Cancer Prevention
- Early Diagnosis
- Sensitivity and Resistance to Therapy
- Paediatric Cancer
- Cancer and Aging
- Survivorship
Check out 4.UNCAN.eu’s Call for Experts for all the details and apply before the 15thof August. Applicants may select up to 2 research areas to participate.
To express your interest, please kindly fill in this form and send a short, free-format CV to [email protected], that includes a brief bio-sketch (half-page), up to 10 most-relevant publications in the past 5 years, and type of contribution (first, corresponding-author) and up to 10 relevant international experiences in research consortia, review panels, evaluation committees, or related activities carried out in the past 5 years.
Experts will be appointed following systematic criteria of scientific production and international research experience, and an international scientific committee will review all submitted applications and notify selected experts appointed to the EWGs. The EWGs will have a balanced representation of scientists at different stages of their career.
