Oncode Institute Joins Alpe d’HuZes with 18 Teams to Support Cancer Research

This year, Oncode Institute will take on the challenge of Alpe d’HuZes with an impressive 18 teams, united under the motto “We’re climbing the mountain for cancer research.” Scientists and staff, together with partners and supporters, will ascend the legendary Alpe d’Huez in France, to raise vital funds for cancer research and to symbolically move their work forward—step by step, meter by meter.

Alpe d’HuZes has become a powerful expression of resilience, solidarity, and hope in the fight against cancer. Each participant climbs the mountain up to six times in a single day, with every ascent contributing to groundbreaking scientific advancements. For Oncode Institute, participating in the event goes beyond the physical feat: it is a call to action.

“Every meter we climb represents the combined effort we dedicate to people affected by cancer,” says Jan Paul Medema, Head of Institute and Scientific Director at Oncode Institute. “At Oncode, we work every day to better understand the disease. By taking part in Alpe d’HuZes with a large team, we’re not only raising funds for research—we’re also showing what science, determination, and hope can achieve together. We climb for a future where cancer no longer holds the power to disrupt lives.”

Honouring Progress and Personal Loss

Oncode Institute has been committed to advancing cancer research for over seven years, with a focus on understanding cancer at the molecular level and translating discoveries into innovative treatments. Participation in Alpe d’HuZes is a deeply personal moment for many at the Institute. The loss of colleagues, patients, friends, and loved ones to cancer, strengthens our resolve to make a difference.

By taking part in this iconic event, we aim to raise both awareness and funding to accelerate life-changing research. The collective journey up the mountain is also a tribute—to those still fighting, to survivors, and to those no longer with us.
